I posted this in “religion” and got a bunch of opinions as answers. I’m looking for an actual date in history for when the Catholic church stopped having the power to wage wars across continents (with the Muslims for example – and others). And when did it stop having the ability to make laws that European nations abided by? Thanks for any help.

I know that Martin Luther found a lot of fault in the Catholic Church during those time’s but I don’t understand why it came to be the beginning of a total knew religion. It could have just been to prove a point that the Church was not following its original roots. Besides the Church recognized its errors and corrected itself by having the Council of Trent.

My grandparent doesn’t know I’m a defected catholic (my baptismal record is marked as defected), and they urged me to receive communion – which i did. I knew that I wasn’t supposed to in the eyes of the church – I like to be respectful of those who are members of the church, but I did. If the church knows I did this, does it make a difference of the church’s opinion of me? Does it make a difference if I try to re-affirm my faith later, or have a catholic wedding if my partner wishes?

Thanks!

Stephen Fry concedes that his opposition to the motion is a deeply personal and emotional one. He criticises the Catholic Church not only for the horrors it has perpetrated in the past, but also for its ideology, and for its sinister temerity to preach that there is no salvation outside of the Church. With two words he refutes Anne Widdecombes suggestion that the Catholic Church does not have the powers of a nation state: The Vatican. As a homosexual, Fry reflects how bizarre it is to be accused of being immoral and a pervert by an institution that has persistently hushed up the rape and abuse of children under its care, and whose leading members, abstentious nuns and priests, all share an attitude towards sex that is utterly unnatural and dysfunctional. He concludes by questioning whether Jesus, as a humble Jewish carpenter, would have approved of all the pomp and excess of the Catholic Church, and whether he would even have been accepted by such an arrogant organisation. After being in schism from the Catholic Church, is the schismatic Orthodox Church ever going to convert back to the Catholic Church? They have been separated from the Body of Christ for almost 1,000 years. Are they ever going to convert back to the faith of Christ again?

Please, Please, no sarcastic or uninformative answers. I believe a acquaintance of mine has been scammed by a person posing as a church official. I know nothing of the Catholic faith or rites, and I don’t know if churches even sell holy water.
