How did religious beliefs earn so much respect whereas if their infringed upon, an individual may have potential recourse.

Also are there any other countries that allow citizens to break their laws in the name of “religious beliefs” or are we (USA) alone with that methodology?
I’ll assume the logic is discrimination, if religion is separate, how is it still labeled discrimination if the law doesn’t recognize religion?

I know a pastor who is hosting a millionaire business seminar at his church and charging money for it. He has a for-profit business where he speaks on different subjects and charges money for the seminars but most of them are at the church. Isn’t that illegal?
